East Cooper Community Outreach (ECCO) is partnering with Charleston Estates by Jen McConnell Group this August to collect donations for families in need on the Isle of Palms!
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the number of food requests ECCO is receiving for emergency food has grown exponentially over the past few months. In the month of May, ECCO distributed 1,144 pre-packaged food orders to 752 local families in need. As a means of comparison, in May of 2019, ECCO served around 350 families with food orders. With demand rising, the need for a larger food supply is critical.
“With your help, we can provide hope to hundreds of local families in need, and fill their most immediate need – food”, stated Volunteer & Community Engagement Manager, Frances Huffstetler.
The Jen McConnell group will be collecting to “Fill the Charleston Estates’ truck!” from Monday, August 3, through Monday, August 31, Monday – Friday, 9am – 3pm. All donations will be collected on the front porch of our office (look for the box(es)) @ 1304 Palm Blvd, Isle of Palms, 29451. Please be sure to take a Charleston Estates’ grocery bag!
About ECCO:
Founded in 1989 as an emergency relief effort after the devastation from Hurricane Hugo, East Cooper Community Outreach (ECCO) strives to eliminate poverty in the East Cooper region by offering programs in three main areas: Basic Needs, Health Services, and Empowerment. More than 2,000 families a year receive assistance for food, clothing, household furnishings, and financial aid, and have access to dental care, medical care, prescription assistance, and educational opportunities like financial literacy classes, computer skills training, job readiness preparation, and counseling. These services are all enhanced through personal interaction with staff who provide individualized support for each client, ongoing case management, and emphasize accountability and achievement.
Uniquely positioned in the area as the only organization of its kind in the East Cooper, ECCO provides comprehensive wrap-around support services to low-income households. With ECCO’s holistic program approach, the organization is considered a “one-stop-shop” for families in financial distress to get help filling a range of individual needs such as food, medical and dental care, prescription assistance, financial assistance, empowerment programs, and more. ECCO’s Wellness Food Pantry is its most requested service.
